Friday, September 24
Keystone, South Dakota
Begin todays' travel experience with a visit to the ‘Chapel
in the Hills’, an exact reproduction of the famous Borgund
Stavkirke of Laerdal, Norway. We will explore Rapid City and
learn of the 1874 Gold Rush led by Custer yielding the precious
metal with a government affixed price of $20.67 per ounce. The
afternoon highlight is the most scenic canyon in the Black
Hills, Spearfish Canyon.
Hot continental breakfast and lunch are included.
Saturday, September 25
Keystone, South Dakota
The worlds' largest mountain carving, Crazy Horse, begins
our adventure today with a close-up to the base of the mountain.
The Indian Museum and Cultural Center is the permanent home of
many artifacts and art of our Native Americans. Step back in
time this afternoon aboard the 1880 vintage narrow-gauge steam
engine railride. This evening, locals provide foot stompin’
entertainment at our included chuckwagon dinner.
Hot continental breakfast and
dinner are included.
Sunday, September 26
Keystone, South Dakota
In February, the National Geographic website featured wild
horses and the Black Hills Wild Horse Sanctuary was among the
kind souls saving them. Our host will tell of the plight of the
mustangs on our journey onto this 11,000-acre sanctuary. This
afternoon a naturalist will take us on the 18-mile ‘wildlife
loop’ in Custer State Park. No visit to the Black Hills would be
complete without experiencing Mt Rushmore, our highlight being
the lighting ceremony.
Hot continental breakfast and
lunch are included.
Monday, September 27
Keystone, South Dakota
Following an early breakfast, we feel the thunder of pounding
hooves as cowboys and cowgirls round up Custer State Park’s
buffalo herd into the buffalo corrals. Once safely in the
corrals, watch as park staff sort, brand, test and select
certain animals for the fall auction.
Hot continental breakfast is included.
