Today is the highlight of our Pilgrimage. At the Papal Mass, Archbishop John C. Previously, Pope Benedict XVI blessed the Palliums before placing them in a 350-year-old silver chest overnight under the main altar at St. Peter’s Basilica. Today is the only time the archbishops will wear the Palliums together. Once bestowed, liturgical rules require that the Pallium be worn only in the metropolitans own see and then only during solemn liturgies like ordinations.
